A Place of Refuge Ministries Christmas Appeal
“More Than a Stable”
Since 1993, A Place of Refuge Ministries has been serving women facing crisis pregnancy and their families with one to one support from caring LCMS volunteers. In 1997, the need for shelter for these women and their children became so great that a six bedroom shelter was purchased and Refuge House was born.
Like the stable that housed Mary and her unborn Child on that Christmas Eve so long ago, Refuge House provides warmth, safety and protection from the elements at a time in a woman’s life when it is needed the most. But Refuge House is so much “More Than a Stable”. Refuge House allows residents to actively participate in programs offering opportunities for continual physical, emotional and spiritual growth, creating a positive foundation for responsible living and decision making. Most of all, Refuge House provides an opportunity to introduce women and their children to the Christ of that stable and the life changing, soul saving grace His death on the cross brings to them.
While the stable in Bethlehem was only a temporary shelter, Refuge House must continue to be a safe haven for women and children. To that end the roof at Refuge House needed to be updated with significant structural repairs this year incurring $11,000 in debt. The goal of this year’s Christmas appeal is to erase that debt, insuring funds donated next year can continue to directly support both the mom’s and children at Refuge House and those assisted by APOR advocates.
