On Saturday, June 12, 2010 the fog and mist didn’t stop people from enjoying what turned into a beautiful morning at A Place of Refuge Ministries Annual LifeWalk, hosted this year by Hales Corners Lutheran Church. Participants enjoyed Starbucks and treats from Broadway Bakery & many other donors, children’s activities and fellowship as they waited for the walk to begin. The 1.5 mile route took walkers over a bridge across a creek and through a lovely neighborhood. Walkers handed out APOR brochures to neighbors as they made their way back to Hales Corners Lutheran for a wonderful lunch served by some of the many volunteers from the church who helped make the day possible.
Several moms and children served by APOR participated in the days events. Some were current residents of Refuge House, some were past residents and others are currently working with our advocates. “Participants in LifeWalk really enjoy this rare opportunity to meet some of the women we serve and hear from them firsthand how APOR has changed their lives” said Trish Kagerbauer
Walkers came from across the South WI District including Racine, Twin Lakes, North Prairie and Waterford. Those who couldn’t travel to Hales Corners, including churches from Tomah, Pleasant Prairie and Wautoma “Strolled with us in Spirit”, adding to the total raised. Supplemental funds were also provided through the Care Abounds in Communities Program of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Local chapters contributing this year were North Milwaukee, Co., Northeast Waukesha Co. and Southeast Waukesha Co.
Note: This year’s LifeWalk raised ½ as much as past years. We need YOUR help to make up this shortfall and continue to provide much needed services to our moms and children.
